Meet Muse’s Golfer-in-Chief, Bruce Vincent

The Muse Communications team has decades of experience working with lawyers — and each other. This is the first in a series of Q&As with the Muse Communications team.

Bruce Vincent has been with Muse since 2016, joining less than a year after we opened our doors. But he and Muse founder Amy Hunt go back to 1990, when they were reporters together at Texas Lawyer. A native of Kentucky, Bruce moved to Texas in his 20s and has been here ever since. We asked him how the legal profession, and the marketing thereof, has changed since the ’90s, as well as what he does when he’s not working.

What’s been the best thing that’s changed about legal marketing since you started, and what do you miss?

Rapid advances in technology have changed legal marketing more than anything else during the 30-plus years I have worked with lawyers. What could take days or weeks using only phones, fax machines, and printers can be done today in only a few hours. Technology also allows us to get faster feedback than ever before, which saves money and time for clients.

One shortcoming of technology, however, is the declining amount of one-on-one communication. It is a lot easier to “know” or “work with” someone when the two of you have been in the same room rather than simply trading electronic messages.

Can you tell us about a favorite project you’ve worked on?

One of my favorite projects was helping an attorney who sponsored a Habitat for Humanity home in an at-risk neighborhood. The lawyer was and still is a big supporter of the community, and we worked with local print, radio, and TV reporters to highlight the story of the incredible family that received the home. Helping put the house together and hearing how much it helped the family and the neighborhood is what I remember most.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not working?

I play golf with the same friends every week unless it rains. We are better than most, play fast, and no one cheats. When it rains, you can probably find me repairing or building a wristwatch.

What’s the best piece of advice anyone’s given you about your career?

You need to see the person who is responsible for your career when you look in the mirror in the morning.

What’s something that people would be surprised to know about you?

Anne Vincent’s State Fair of Texas Award Ribbons

I had the stunning foresight to marry a woman who would go on to be a multi-ribbon winner at the State Fair of Texas based on her incredible culinary skills. My beautiful wife Anne has been deemed the Lone Star State’s finest for more jams and chutneys than any husband deserves. I am blessed.
